Acute Digestive Tract Infections

May be caused by viruses, protozoa or bacteria. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, increased gas formation, spasmodic pain and increased urge to defecate, loss of appetite, lethargy, fever, black stools or blood in the stool.

Seek emergency medical help: if there is blood in the stool or black stool, temperature above 39.5, severe pain, signs of dehydration, signs of altered consciousness, diarrhea does not go away within 24 hours.

First aid kit: enterosorbents, oak bark, St. John's wort, yarrow, elecampane, chamomile, chicory, calendula, licorice root, lemon balm, mint.

But it is better not to use antiemetic and antidiarrheal drugs unless absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor. Vomiting and diarrhea are the body's defense mechanisms against infection. This is how the body tries to get rid of the pathogen and its toxins. If this self-cleaning is blocked, the condition may worsen.

Drinking and nutrition: electrolyte solution, or homemade lemonade - lemon juice, water, a pinch of salt, a little sugar/honey. Ginger tea. Broth of rice, rice or cereal with banana, white bread croutons.
